Understanding and Using DISA on CSD Voip

Knowledge Base: Understanding and Using DISA

Direct Inward System Access (DISA) is a powerful feature of your CSD VOIP phone system that allows authorized users to "dial into" the PBX from an external line (like a cell phone or home landline) and use the company system as if they were sitting at their desk.

Using DISA allows you to make outbound calls that appear to come from the company Caller ID and access internal system features remotely.

How DISA Works

When you access the DISA feature, the system provides you with a secondary dial tone. From there, you can dial external numbers or internal Feature Access Codes (FAC).

Common DISA Scenarios

1. Standard DISA Call Flow (Making Outbound Calls)

In most configurations, your Virtual Receptionist (IVR) will have a specific key assigned to DISA (commonly key 9).

Step 1: Dial your main company phone number.

Step 2: When the Virtual Receptionist answers, press 9.

Step 3: Enter your assigned DISA PIN when prompted.

Step 4: Once verified, enter the destination number you wish to call.

Step 5: Press # to signal the end of the number entry.

Result: The PBX bridges the call. The person you are calling will see your office caller ID, not your personal phone number.

2. Checking an Extension’s Voicemail Remotely

If you are away from your desk and need to check your messages, you can use DISA to reach the voicemail server.

Step 1: Dial your company number and press 9 during the greeting.

Step 2: Enter your DISA PIN.

Step 3: Enter the Voicemail FAC (default is *57) followed by your Extension Number, then press #.

Example: For extension 101, enter: *57101#

Step 4: When prompted, enter your 4 to 6-digit Voicemail PIN followed by #.

Step 5: Follow the voice prompts to manage your mailbox.

Security Best Practices

IMPORTANT

Protect Your PIN: Treat your DISA PIN with the same level of security as a bank PIN. Unauthorized access to DISA can lead to fraudulent long-distance charges. Ensure your PIN is complex and unique.
